The new Joya's has just reopened from a fire. Their service needs to be ironed out. I came on a Friday night and it was packed. It took almost 2 hours for my wife and I to finish our meal because of slow service. My review is for the food because as an optimist I predict their service will improve.
First, the chips and salsa were unique but not great. The salsa tasted like a family recipe and not something out of a bottle. My wife had the green enchiladas which is one of her Tex-Mex go to dishes. It was okay, but the tomatillo sauce was not as tangy as she likes. I looked for something off my radar on the menu. I picked a dish call Enchiladas Michoacano. It was 5 tortillas dipped in a red chile sauce and folded around some cheese. They were lined up on a plate and topped with chopped tomatoes, cabbage, and grilled chicken breast. The result was delicious and more traditional Mexican than Tex-Mex. Even with the wait for the service, I left happy. -

They reopened today!!!
I would definitely wait at least a few weeks before trying them out again. We waited almost an hour for our food. ( 2 people) we Had to get our own refills, asked for chips twice before we ever got any. Our waitress never asked how our food was. My pancakes were almost burnt.
We had to move tables because the air conditioner was dripping on us and our table.
I'm being generous with 3 stars because the rest of the staff was friendly. -

I wanted to love this place- based on all the other reviews. Terrible service- had to ask for silverware, napkins, straws, plates, refills. The queso for our chips was super watery- could not even get it to scoop on the chip. Food took a long time- rice was very cold with a freezer taste? Cheese inside the cheese enchiladas was still not melted. Super disappointed. I can handle bad service if the food is on point. But neither were good.

Good food with great chips and salsa. Have nice lunch specials as well. Was able to get 2 beef enchiladas with rice/beans, and chips and salsa for $5.95! Recently opened after a fire shut the restaurant down for roughly 6 to 9 months (I could be wrong on time frame). Nice spot for downtown Wylie.

We waited a long time for them to re-open. Went in on Sunday. Bad idea. The place was packed and they weren't ready. Slooooow service. The food was not their typical good food. OK, went back last night (Thursday). Not busy. Service still sucked!!! What happened to the gals they had... guess they moved on to other jobs. Food is so so. Use to be better in the old place. We'll give it another shot in a week or so. Disappointed so far. Was so hoping that when they re-opened after the fire they would be just a good as before... not so so far. Will see.
